Emmi Vaara:
Singing
About Emmi
Emmi is a Finnish-born singer, composer, and violist with over eight years of teaching experience. She studied vocal pedagogy in Germany, then moved to London with a grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation to complete her MA in Contemporary Music Performance.
Alongside teaching, she studies Music Therapy at Guildhall, which has deepened her understanding of the voice in therapeutic and relational contexts. If you're a nervous singer or find self-expression challenging—vocally or otherwise—she'd be glad to help create a space where you feel comfortable trying things out at your own pace.
Her lessons focus on building healthy, reliable vocal technique alongside practical musicianship. Emmi works with students of all levels, helping them develop tone, range, and control through clear, evidence-based approaches to voice training. Her teaching is rooted in encouragement: she aims to help students feel at home in their own voices, grow in confidence, and connect more deeply with the music they love.
In addition to teaching, Emmi writes and releases music under the name Emmi Maaria and has been featured on BBC 6 Music, Boogaloo Radio, and Radio Helsinki. She also composes for film and performs as a violist and singer in various collaborative projects.
